What are Pigmented Lesions, Age Spots and Sun Spots?
Brown spots on face are also known by other names including sunspots, age spots, liver spots, and freckles. These pigmented lesions are caused by over-exposure to the sun’s damaging ultraviolet rays. There are different treatments available to reduce unwanted brown spots. The type of lesion will determine the best method for removing it.
What Pigmented Lesions can be treated by Laser?
Laser can treat red and brown lesions commonly referred to as age or liver spots, birthmarks, scars, stretch marks, tattoos, pigmentation and freckles. Laser treatments are also used to remove ‘broken blood vessels’, spider veins, leg veins, and port wine stain birthmarks as well as hypertrophic scars and stretch marks. All of these lesions can be treated with Alexandrite and Nd:YAG as well as Intense Pulsed Light.
How are Pigmented Lesions removed?
Using Nd:YAG, Alexandrite and Intense Pulsed Light variety of dark skin spots can be removed. These lasers produce a very bright beam of light that destroys the cells containing pigment, with very little damage to surrounding skin.
How do Lasers and Light Sources Work to Remove Vascular Lesions, Stretch Marks, and Scars?
These lasers and light sources produce a bright beam of light to selectively destroy the blood vessels that make up the vascular lesions, or are contained within the scar or stretch mark, without damaging surrounding tissues. Factors such as the type of vascular lesion, age, color, and the location on the body determine whether the lesions can be removed.
